Progress on Lot Ten

10/21/2013

Breaking ground last week, lot ten is progressing rapidly. With fall colors still in the trees, the days are crisp and clear, and the views are spectacular. The town of Southwest Harbor is so peaceful in autumn, being a little off the beaten path. It really is a relaxing home away from home.

Check out how to get to this beautiful town by using our location page.  Then, see what there is to do on Mount Desert Island by viewing the lifestyle page.

Activities in Maine are a year-round adventure, and this area has some of the best and most desirable recreational attractions on the east coast. You will love it!

Leaf Peeping Trip Around the Property

To check on the progress of the development, the owners took a trip to MDI this Columbus Day weekend. The leaves were in peak season, and it was a gorgeous day. The sun was shining and the crisp fall air smelled of hemlocks.

Lot number ten, which broke ground last Friday, was well underway and on schedule to be completed by December of this year.

Research was conducted on the salt marsh for the trail system, which will be in place by this time next year. Old Clark Road will the the basis for this trail system, and it will run alongside Buttermilk creek and down to the salt marsh. It will provide homeowners a place to walk their dogs and enjoy the variety of nature available on the property. The marsh will be a great spot for bird-watching, and local rumors report it to be a phenomenal secret fishing spot. The trails will lead right up to the back of Acadia National Park, where hiking can then be continued within the park.

A walk down to the water proved successful for collecting sea glass, and investigating tide-pools. In the spring, a gazebo will be added to the waterfront area for homeowners leisure, where one can sit and read or simply enjoy the beauty of the area. The waterfront also consists of a pier with five floating docks for easy water access by residents. These floating docks have been removed for the winter, but will be put back in next spring.

Overall, it proved to be a productive and breathtaking day. "I've only ever spent time in the area during the summer months, but fall is arguably even more spectacular. I love the colors on the trees and the refreshing ocean breeze. Plus, there are almost no crowds!" Dawn Howland
