Summer in Maine is the best time of the year. Here in Acadia, it is perfect for outdoor activities like hiking and eating (and social) activities like a lobster bake. It was a beautiful August evening and that's exactly what we did here at the Village at Ocean's End last Friday.
Acadia Mountain, standing at 681' tall, is the perfect afternoon hike. Whether you're with family, friends, or on a solo stroll, Acadia Mountain will get your heart pumping but also get you back to the car before dinner. Offering spectacular views of Somes Sound and the Cranberry Islands, and only a 5 minute drive to the parking lot from the Village at Ocean's End, Acadia Mountain is truly a MDI classic especially when sticking to the "quietside."
Maine is great for many reasons, and one of those reasons is being able to call your neighbor and request a bucket full of lobster to share with your friends that night. Fresh from the harbor and into your belly in the same day, it doesn't get much better than that.

There is no better way to spend time with family and friends after a hike than a lobster bake in the gazebo for dinner. Protected from the mosquitoes, and positioned with iconic views of Southwest Harbor, the gazebo (on the waterfront) is the ideal spot to set up a picnic-style dinner for you and your crew.
On the menu?
- Fresh Southwest Harbor lobstahhh (obviously)
- Corn on the cob - necessary for any lobster bake
- Zucchini fresh from a local farmer, marinated in balsamic, grilled, and drizzled with a balsamic reduction
- Local greens and veggies for your perfect summer salad
- Grilled chicken for the picky eaters among us
- And lastly, fresh cucumber, feta, onion, and fresh mint salad for another summery vegetable option
Can you say bon appétit? We sure did.
